An adverb modifies a verb, adjective, another adverb, or sometimes an entire sentence.
Adverb किसी Verb, Adjective, दूसरे Adverb अथवा कभी-कभी पूरे Sentence की विशेषता बताता है।
Example:
He runs quickly.
“Quickly” modifies “runs”.
Types of Adverbs / Adverb के प्रकार
1. Adverb of Manner / रीति
Tells how something happens.
बताता है कि कार्य कैसे हुआ।
Examples:
slowly, carefully, honestly, beautifully
She sings beautifully.
2. Adverb of Time / समय
Tells when.
Examples:
today, yesterday, soon, now, already
He arrived yesterday.
3. Adverb of Place / स्थान
Tells where.
Examples:
here, there, everywhere, outside, upstairs
Come here.
4. Adverb of Frequency / आवृत्ति
Examples:
always, often, usually, sometimes, rarely, never
She always arrives on time.
5. Adverb of Degree / मात्रा
Examples:
very, quite, too, almost, enough
The tea is too hot.
Position of Frequency Adverbs
Normally before the main verb:
He always studies.
But after the verb “be”:
He is always punctual.
Adjective vs Adverb
Correct:
She is a quick runner.
Quick modifies noun “runner”.
Correct:
She runs quickly.
Quickly modifies verb “runs”.
Hard vs Hardly
hard = with great effort / मेहनत से
He works hard.
hardly = almost not / लगभग नहीं
He hardly works.
The meanings are completely different.
दोनों के अर्थ पूरी तरह अलग हैं।
Late vs Lately
late = after expected time / देर से
He came late.
lately = recently / हाल ही में
I have not seen him lately.
Near vs Nearly
near = close / पास
Come near.
nearly = almost / लगभग
It is nearly finished.
Enough
With adjective/adverb, “enough” generally comes after:
strong enough
quickly enough
With noun:
enough money
Too vs Very
Very intensifies normally.
Too often means more than desirable.
Example:
The water is very hot.
The water is too hot to drink.
