LASER

LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

LASER का पूर्ण रूप Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation है।

Laser light is highly directional, coherent and can be nearly monochromatic. Laser beams can travel long distances with relatively low divergence compared with ordinary light sources.

लेजर प्रकाश अत्यधिक दिशात्मक और coherent होता है तथा लगभग एकवर्णी हो सकता है। सामान्य प्रकाश स्रोत की तुलना में laser beam बहुत कम फैलाव के साथ लंबी दूरी तक जा सकती है।

The first working laser was demonstrated by Theodore Maiman in 1960 using a ruby crystal.

पहला कार्यशील laser Theodore Maiman ने 1960 में ruby crystal का उपयोग करके प्रदर्शित किया।

Laser research began in India during the 1960s at institutions including BARC and other research laboratories. Semiconductor lasers based on materials such as gallium arsenide became an important area of research.

MASER

MASER stands for Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It applies stimulated emission to produce or amplify coherent microwave radiation.

MASER का पूर्ण रूप Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation है। इसमें stimulated emission द्वारा coherent microwave radiation उत्पन्न या amplify किया जाता है।

Charles Townes and colleagues developed the first maser in the early 1950s. Nikolay Basov and Alexander Prokhorov independently developed related theoretical foundations. The 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Townes, Basov and Prokhorov for fundamental work in quantum electronics leading to masers and lasers.
